Emotions, worse attention linked to pain-related health care use SCD

Key clinical point: Cognitive and emotional factors may hinder management of children with sickle cell disease.

Major finding: Worse scores on emotion scales and attention tests were associated with pain-related ED visits and hospitalizations.

Study details: A retrospective study of 112 children/adolescents with sickle cell disease enrolled in a study of computerized learning.
