Mouth splints decrease risk of post–dental extraction bleeding in hemophilia

Key clinical point: Mouth splints significantly decreased the risk of bleeding in patients with hemophilia after dental extraction.

Major finding: Mouth splints significantly decreased the risk of postextraction bleeding (odds ratio, 0.13; P = .01) in hemophilia patients receiving factor replacements.

Study details: A retrospective study of 151 dental extractions in 55 patients; 48 with hemophilia A and 7 with hemophilia B.
