Manifestations of schizophrenia

Schizophrenia has stages, just like cancer. And like Alzheimer’s, if it goes untreated, schizophrenia becomes a neurodegenerative brain disorder. Yet, some clinicians do not have the appropriate sense of urgency about providing treatment for schizophrenia patients, according to Henry A. Nasrallah, MD.

In part 2 of his interview with Dr. Nasrallah on the MDedge Psychcast, Lorenzo Norris, MD, discusses the need for clinicians to shift their thinking about schizophrenia and to treat the illness as early in the disease process as possible.
