A 6-year-old girl presents with her mother with complaints of severe itchiness that keeps her up at night. She has pruritic, eczematous rashes on her face and the flexural areas of her neck, chest, and palms. The child has had these (usually mild) symptoms since infancy. Her mother has added baby oil to her daughter's bath water, with minimal improvement, and the symptoms have gotten worse recently. The patient is otherwise healthy. She has mild hay fever but no other chronic conditions.
