Patricia L. Turner, MD, FACS, Director of the American College of Surgeons Division of Member Services, received the 2016 National Medical Association (NMA) Council on Concerns of Women Physicians (CCWP) Service Award. Dr. Turner received the award July 31 at the CCWP Annual Muriel Petioni, MD, Awards Luncheon, which took place during the NMA’s 114th Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly in Los Angeles.

This award honors women physicians who, through research, community service, and activism, strive to eliminate health care disparities, provide people of color with quality health care, and address women’s health and professional issues. The awards program, the most highly attended event of the convention, continues to grow in popularity. This year’s program featured award-winning actress and television director Regina King.
