A 54-year-old man presents with polydipsia and polyuria. The patient has a history of hypertension, managed with amlodipine, and today his blood pressure is 139/86 mm Hg. Height is 5 ft 8 in, weight is 200 lb, and body mass index is 30.4. The patient is currently undergoing physical therapy to lose wight and relieve worsening discomfort of the knees. He has no other significant medical or surgical history. Temperature is 36.1 °C (97 °F), respiratory rate is 15 breaths/min, oxygen saturation is 96% on room air, and heart rate is 86 beats/min.
