Bilateral Mastectomy Reduces Second Breast Cancer Risk, but not Death
Key clinical point: Bilateral mastectomy does not decrease risk of breast cancer death, compared with breast-conserving therapy.
Major finding: The hazard ratio for death with bilateral mastectomy versus breast-conserving therapy was 1.03 and was not significant.
Study details: A retrospective study of data on 2435,418 patients diagnosed with breast cancer from 1998 to 2015.
