Conditioning Regimens for MCL Compared

Biol Blood Marrow Transplant; ePub 2017 Oct 20; Tseng, et al

Total body irradiation- (TBI) and carmustine, etoposide, cytarabine, melphalan- (BEAM) based conditioning regimens were confirmed to be viable options for patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) undergoing autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) in a study involving 75 individuals. Participants with MCL underwent ASCT at a single institution between 2001 and 2011 with either TBI- (n=43) or BEAM-based (n=32) conditioning. Among the results:

  • Most patients had chemosensitive disease.
  • 87% were transplanted in first remission.
  • There were no statistically significant differences in 5-year progression free and overall survival rates.
  • Early toxicity, non-relapse mortality, and secondary malignancies were also similar in both groups.
