Maintaining and reclaiming hemostasis in laparoscopic surgery

Author and Disclosure Information

Brought to you by the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons. In this video, the authors describe the relationship between speed, tissue tension, and space to maximize hemostasis and allow for precise dissection. The principles of sharp and blunt dissection, meticulous hemostasis, and responding to brisk bleeding are reviewed and “pro tips” are included for each technique. Additionally, the authors discuss key components of electrosurgical energy use to minimize thermal injury and achieve desired tissue effects. By understanding the relationship between dissection and hemostasis and using the strategies outlined in this video, surgeons can operate safely.
