Association Between H. pylori and Chronic HCV
Gastroen Res Pract; ePub 2016 Jan 24; Wang, et al
There is a strong association between H. pylori and chronic hepatitis C (HCV), particularly during the HCV progression stage, according to a study of database records for 1,449 patients with chronic HCV and 2,337 controls. Researchers found:
• Prevalence of H. pylori was significantly higher in patients with chronic HCV (pooled odds ratio=2.93) vs those without HCV.
• In a subgroup analysis, odds ratios were 4.48 for HCV-related cirrhosis and 5.45 for hepatocellular carcinoma.
