Key clinical point: Age, sex, and other factors may be associated with an increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage in patients with immune thrombocytopenia.

Major finding: Female patients had a decreased likelihood of intracranial hemorrhage, with an odds ratio of 0.81. Older patients had an increased likelihood of intracranial hemorrhage. The OR was 2.23 for patients aged 25-64 years and 3.69 for patients aged 65 years and older.

Study details: A retrospective study of 348,906 immune thrombocytopenia hospitalizations, including 3,408 cases of intracranial hemorrhage.
