No Reduction in PE Risk With Vena Cava Filters After Severe Injury

Key clinical point: Vena cava filters may not reduce pulmonary embolism risk after severe injury.

Major finding: The incidence of pulmonary embolism and death at 90 days was similar in patients with vena cava filters and those without (13.9% vs. 14.4% respectively, P = 0.98).

Study details: A multicenter, randomized controlled trial of 240 patients with severe injury.
