Study highlights benefits of integrating dermatology into oncology centers

Key clinical point: Integrating dermatology into cancer care centers improved adherence to cancer treatment protocols and increased the rate of prophylactic treatment for rashes resulting from cancer therapies.

Major finding: Significantly more patients were treated prophylactically for skin toxicity in 2017 vs. 2012 (47% vs. 25%) after the initiation of a dermatology protocol.

Study details: The data come from a retrospective cohort study of all adults who received at least one dose of cetuximab at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2012 or 2017.
