Severe COVID-19 may lower hemoglobin levels

Key clinical point: The hemoglobin value was significantly lower in severe COVID-19 patients, compared with those with milder forms.

Major finding: A weighted mean difference in hemoglobin content of −7.1 g/L (95% CI, −8.3 g/L to −5.9 g/L) was found in comparing severe to milder cases of COVID-19.

Study details: Meta-analysis of four studies of 1,210 COVID-19 patients with assessable hemoglobin values.
