Medications in Dermatology, Part 1: Systemic Antibiotics and Antivirals

Author and Disclosure Information

As part of our commitment to resident education, Cutis is excited to offer this new monthly section with board-relevant, easy-to-review material. Each month this section will focus on the key facts of commonly tested topics. It will be a resource for review while on the go, for group study, or for last-minute preparation. This section is not meant to be comprehensive but rather a supplement to other study materials.

Dermatologists encounter a wide variety of medications in their practice as well as their potential side effects. This month’s fact sheet will be the first in an ongoing series focusing on common medications in dermatology. Systemic antibiotics and antivirals are among the most commonly prescribed medications and knowledge of their mechanism of action and common side effects is important.
