Pros and Cons of Devices for Rosacea

Author and Disclosure Information

Dr. Gary Goldenberg discusses lasers and light sources that are ideal for treating rosacea patients. He describes the 2 main devices he uses in his practice—photodynamic therapy and the pulsed dye laser—and provides some advantages and disadvantages that dermatologists should know before treating patients. He also discusses the pros and cons of other popular devices, such as the potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) laser, the Nd:YAG laser, and intense pulsed light. Dr. Goldenberg notes that these modalities may be more effective than topical or prescription therapies for rosacea clearance, particularly due to increased compliance.
