Keytruda
Merck & Co, Inc, announces US Food and Drug Administration approval of Keytruda (pembrolizumab) for the treatment of patients with unresectable or metastatic melanoma and disease progression following ipilimumab and, if BRAF V600–mutation positive, a BRAF inhibitor. Keytruda is the first anti-PD-1 (programmed death receptor-1) therapy in the United States and is approved as a breakthrough therapy based on tumor response rate and durability of response. It works by increasing the ability of the body’s immune system to fight advanced melanoma. Otezla
Celgene Corporation obtains US Food and Drug Administration approval for Otezla (apremilast), an oral, selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4 for the treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for phototherapy or systemic therapy. Otezla is associated with an increase in adverse reactions of depression. Patients, their caregivers, and families should be advised of the need to be alert for the emergence or worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts, or other mood changes.
