Walk test may predict complications after lung cancer surgery

Key clinical point: For lung cancer patients with moderately decreased lung function, the 6-minute walk test may be a useful tool to help predict postoperative cardiopulmonary complications.

Major finding: Odds for postoperative cardiopulmonary complications were significantly increased in patients with moderately decreased lung function and short 6-minute walking distance (adjusted odds ratio, 7.84; 95% confidence interval, 2.24-27.46).

Study details: Analysis of data on 416 patients expected to undergo curative lung cancer surgery who were enrolled in a prospective cohort study in Korea.
