Flow-mediated dilation of brachial artery predicts renal dysfunction in sickle cell disease

Key clinical point: Sonographic flow-mediated dilation (FMD) of the brachial artery may predict renal dysfunction in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD).

Major finding: Flow-mediated dilation (FMD) was negatively correlated with serum level of cystatin C (P = .013).

Study details: A cross-sectional comparative study involving 44 patients with homozygous SCD and 33 age- and sex-matched controls.
