A 55-year-old woman presents to the emergency department with a 2-week history of colicky right upper quadrant pain. Abdominal ultrasound reveals cholecystitis and she undergoes a routine cholecystectomy. The patient is incidentally found on pathology to have gallbladder adenocarcinoma limited to the lamina propria (T1a) and negative margins (R0 resection).

What are your recommendations regarding the next step in the management of this patient?

Proceed with surgical exploration to assess for residual disease

Offer adjuvant chemoradiation

Offer adjuvant gemcitabine and oxali­platin (GEMOX)
