Severe COVID-19 disease most common in infants, teens

Key clinical point: The youngest and oldest pediatric patients with COVID-19 were more likely to be hospitalized (under age 1 year and over 15 years), and those aged 17 and older were most likely to need critical care.

Major finding: The median age of critically ill COVID-19 pediatric patients was significantly higher, compared with noncritically ill patients (17 years vs. 4 years).

Study details: The data come from an observational cohort study of 177 children and young adults infected with SARS-CoV-2 at a single center.
