Mortality burden of dementia may be greater than estimated

Key clinical point: The mortality burden of dementia may be 2.7 times greater than previously reported.

Major finding: Although 13.6% of deaths were attributable to dementia, 5.0% of death certificates listed dementia as an underlying cause.

Study details: A prospective cohort study of 7,342 adults aged 70 years or older.
