Memory tests in 50s predict mild cognitive impairment in middle age

Key clinical point: Memory performance of cognitively healthy adults in their 50s predicted progression to mild cognitive impairment 6 years later.

Major finding: A latent factor score combining seven memory measures was a significant predictor of amnestic mild cognitive impairment after 6 years in cognitively normal men (odds ratio 9.88).

Study details: The data come from a longitudinal study of 849 men who were cognitively normal at baseline and followed for approximately 6 years.

Disclosures: The study was supported by the National Institutes of Health. The researchers had no financial conflicts to disclose.
