Does AED prophylaxis delay seizure onset in children with brain tumors?
Key clinical point: At 6 months, but not at 12 months, antiepileptic drug prophylaxis appears to delay the diagnosis of first seizure in children with brain tumor.
Major finding: At 6 months of follow-up, the median gap before the first seizure diagnosis was 68 days for children on antiepileptic drug prophylaxis and 34 days for controls.
Study details: A case-control study using data for 218 children with brain tumors.
Disclosures: The Weill Cornell Clinical and Translational Science Center and the American Academy of Neurology provided funding for the study.
