Insomnia may have a role in generation of stressful life events

Key clinical point: Insomnia disorder appears to play a causal role in the development of new stressful life events.

Major finding: Insomnia disorder at baseline predicted the number of stressful life events (either dependent or interpersonal) generated within 3 months [beta, 0.70; standard error, 0.31; T score, 2.27; P = .03].

Study details: A cross-lagged panel analysis using baseline and 3-month follow-up data from 137 individuals who had lost their jobs involuntarily.
