In utero infections raise risk for autism

Key clinical point: Exposure to maternal infection during pregnancy increased the risk of autism and depression in children.

Major finding: An autism diagnosis was approximately 80% more likely (OR 1.79) among children whose mothers had infections.

Study details: The data come from a population-based cohort study of 1,791,520 Swedish children.
