Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis heart risk higher than expected

Key clinical point: Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is associated with more cardiovascular events than is predicted by the Framingham Risk Score (FRS).

Major finding: Over a 10-year period, almost 39% of patients with DISH developed cardiovascular disease; the FRS had estimated 27% of patients would develop CVD.

Study details: An observational study of 45 patients with DISH and 47 patients with osteoarthritis without DISH as controls.
