Rates of Giant Cell Arteritis Similar Among White and Black Patients

Key clinical point: Despite previous studies to the contrary, incidence rates for giant cell arteritis were found to be similar between races.

Major finding: Biopsy-proven GCA occurred at similar levels in white and black patients (incidence rate ratio, 1.2; 95% CI, 0.6-2.4; P = .66).

Study details: A retrospective cohort study of 586 patients who underwent temporal artery biopsy at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore.
