One-third of critical illness survivors emerge from ICU with functional deterioration

Key clinical point: Functional status deterioration after critical illness has become more common and of greater magnitude.

Major finding: Almost one-third of patients (29.3%) had functional status deterioration after a stay in the ICU.

Study details: A retrospective longitudinal cohort analysis involving 129,917 nonsurgical patients who survived medical ICU admission.
