Interrupting prolonged sitting with brief bouts of light-intensity activity throughout the workday—either walking or doing simple resistance activities for 3 minutes once every 30 minutes—resulted in an “impressive reduction” in blood pressure in overweight sedentary men and women with type 2 diabetes, according to Dr. Bronwyn Kingwell, who conducted the small study in Melbourne, Australia.
