Levonorgestrel IUDs offer safe, effective care for disabled adolescents
Key clinical point: Use of intrauterine contraceptive devices was safe and effective for patients aged 22 years and younger with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.
Major finding: The IUD continuation rate was 95% after 1 year and 73% after 5 years.
Study details: The data come from a retrospective study of 159 patients aged 22 years and younger with disabilities who received 185 levonorgestrel IUDs.
